Irene MacCuish

The unexpected passing of Local medical icon Irene MacCuish occurred Sunday November 9 2008 at Humboldt District Hospital. Graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1953, Irene moved to LeRoy Sk. in 1963 as Matron of the local hospital. Upon its conversion to the Lerose Lodge she maintained her position there. Irene was well known as a "nurse on call" for the local residents and founder of the LeRoy Ambulance Service in 1976 using a station wagon for transport.

She maintained this service to the community as an EMT and local facilitator until her retirement in 1998. She was also employed for several years at the local clinic and was a key person in the building of a new facility. Irene was an advocate for rural health care and present on several boards through the years. Mrs MacCuish was still delivering prescription medications to local residents the day prior to her passing. Condolences may be sent to the MacCuish family at Box 206 LeRoy Sk. S0K 2P0
